City Landscape Mural – Fine Art Installation
Fire Pit Mural Custom Made
This exterior wall mural was commissioned to transform a backyard fire pit area into an immersive landscape mural experience. The goal wasn’t just to decorate a wall but to define a striking outdoor zone that blends urban edge with architectural consideration. Designed as a refined fire pit mural, this piece acts as a centrepiece for the space, both visually and structurally.
The mural is painted on cement sheeting, which was custom installed between rusted steel shelving units. These steel frames aren’t just decorative, they house firewood for the pit and provide a sculptural framework around the artwork. The layout was developed in close consultation with the client to complement the alfresco area and allow the mural to connect with surrounding landscaping elements. Comfortable outdoor seating completes the setting, making this mural part of a functional, welcoming fire pit zone.
Visually, the mural is a fine art rendering of the Melbourne cityscape as seen from the Arts Centre. The idea was to evoke mood so instead of a generic sunset, a textured, neutral-toned sky was layered in, adding sophistication and atmosphere. Below, I brought in techniques from street art and graffiti into the masterpiece such as fades, textures, and mark-making that speak to Melbourne’s graffiti art culture. The result is a wall that sits comfortably between fine art and street culture, giving it real character and presence.
Every element of this landscape mural was mapped for cohesion and long-term durability. I offered scaled 3D CAD drawings and a detailed conceptual floor plan as part of the design process. This service ensures the artwork is positioned correctly in relation to the fire pit, wall length, furniture placement, and surrounding garden features. It also lets clients visualise how the mural will behave in the space before painting begins, an important consideration for any high-end exterior artwork.
The wall itself can be optionally coated with UV-resistant and weatherproof materials to ensure the piece can endure full exposure to the elements. As a fire pit mural, it also had to withstand proximity to heat and smoke, so finishes were selected with longevity in mind. The rusted steel framing around the mural wasn’t just aesthetic, it was part of the overall strategy to give the mural architectural grounding.
From a design standpoint, the mural includes refined touches like reflections in the buildings, soft glows in the windows, and detailed work that adds depth. These fine elements make it part of my Premium Selected Artworks series, murals that go beyond paint to offer something atmospheric, intentional, and long-lasting.
What sets this project apart is how it transforms a standard exterior wall into a living, breathing part of the home’s identity. It creates a seamless visual flow from indoor dining areas (where the mural can be seen through the window), to the outdoor fire pit, tying the zones together with purpose. It turns the act of gathering around a fire into something elevated, surrounded not just by warmth, but by a curated environment.
At night, the mural changes. Firelight dances against the surface. Ambient garden lights catch the skyline silhouettes. The shadows shift. It becomes not just a backdrop, but an experience, something that interacts with the atmosphere and the people around it.
This kind of work shows what’s possible when a landscape mural is treated as part of the build, not just the décor. It’s what happens when graffiti sensibility meets architectural planning. And it’s a strong example of how a fire pit mural can turn an otherwise unused section of yard into a defining moment in someone’s home.
