While installation art is diverse, these five characteristics of installation art are often present:

  1. Site-specificity – designed for a particular location.

  2. Interactivity or immersion – invites viewers to engage with the space.

  3. Use of mixed media – combines various materials and techniques.

  4. Spatial awareness – integrates with architectural elements and layout.

  5. Narrative or conceptual depth – tells a story or expresses an idea beyond aesthetics.

In my fit-outs, these characteristics are tailored to each project — whether it’s a restaurant, retail space, or residential interior.
