Art Deco Speakeasy Interior

Melbourne, 2017 – Spray Paint

An art deco speakeasy interior created for La La Land on Chapel Street. This piece was made for their newly revamped back section called Little Red and tailored to match the mood of the updated interior. Built around a speakeasy theme, the mural is hand-painted onto raw brick with a gold leaf pattern that catches the overhead light. The focal point features two women seated at a bar, designed to feel like you’re looking in through a window. It has a timeless presence with a bit of grit, sitting naturally within the rest of the venue’s styling.

The palette works with the existing reds, warm shadows and brass tones in the room. Lighting picks up the gold details, shifting depending on where you’re standing. The mural doesn’t try to dominate, but it still becomes a quiet standout. This art deco speakeasy interior supports the energy of the space, part dance floor / bar and part lounge, while keeping that 1920s vibe with a street-informed twist.
