Monash Radiology Mural

‘The Enchanted Tree’ – Melbourne, 2018 – Acrylic

This Monash radiology mural was developed as a special collaboration between Set It Off and the Radiology Department staff at Monash Children’s Hospital. Designed to transform what can often feel like a clinical environment into a warm and imaginative space, the mural features an enchanted tree at its centre, its branches sprawling with subtle motion across the interior walls and continuing onto the ceiling to create a truly immersive effect.

Every detail was carefully considered, from the shape and flow of the tree trunk to the delicate integration of whimsical elements that invite young patients to feel more at ease. Painted entirely by hand, this mural not only uplifts the atmosphere but also serves as a gentle distraction and visual journey for children visiting the radiology unit. The tones were selected to be calming, while still vibrant enough to spark curiosity and conversation.

More than just a decorative piece, the Monash radiology mural is an example of how art in medical spaces can shift mood, create comfort, and even play a role in the healing environment. The end result is a thoughtful and playful feature wall that continues to bring smiles to patients, families, and staff every day.
